Online Communications Policy

Acceptable Use:

1. Students are allowed to use online communications (iChat, e-mail, instant
messaging, etc.) during the school day only if they have been given
permission along with specific instructions by faculty or staff.

2. When using iChat, students must use their first and last name for their screen name.

3. When using iChat, the only photo to be displayed is a photo of the students face.

4. Students’ iChat status must be “Available” or “Away”.

Consequences:

First Offense:

Any student using any online communication tool (ichat, e-mail, instant messaging, etc.)
inappropriately (without faculty/staff permission, references to sex, drugs, alcohol, the
occult, gang involvement/activity, bullying, cheating, improper language, etc.) will
receive one citation along with a phone call home to parent/guardian by the Dean.
Technology Department will take laptop and do a thorough search of all items on the
machine.

Second Offense:

Any student using any online communication tool (ichat, e-mail, instant messaging, etc.)
inappropriately (without faculty/staff permission, references to sex, drugs, alcohol, the
occult, gang involvement/activity, bullying, cheating, improper language, etc.) the second
time will receive two citations along with the scheduling of Disciplinary Conference with
student, parents/guardian, Assistant Principal and Dean. Student will be placed on some
level of probation and will not be allowed to take laptop home during that probation
period. Student must drop off laptop in the Dean's office every day after school and pick
it up from the Dean the beginning of each day during probation period. Technology
Department will periodically check laptop and do a thorough search of all items on the
machine throughout probation period.

Third Offense:

Any student using any online communication tool (ichat, e-mail, instant messaging, etc.)
inappropriately (without faculty/staff permission, references to sex, drugs, alcohol, the
occult, gang involvement/activity, bullying, cheating, improper language, etc.) the third
time will receive two citations along with the scheduling of a Board Hearing to determine
whether or not student will remain at Central Catholic High School. If student remains at
Central Catholic, the use of any online communication tools will be denied, ichat will be
removed from laptop and student must drop off laptop in the Dean's office every day after
school and pick it up from the Dean the beginning of each day (student may no longer
take laptop home). Student will also be placed on a Final Contract.
*The Administration reserves the right to adjust the consequences listed above in
accordance with the severity of the offense.
